Fire hydrants
A hydrant is a point of use in the water distribution system, e.g., for fire service operations or self-help in the event of a fire.
Wall hydrants in buildings are permanently installed and equipped with coiled fabric or rigid hoses. They are used for initial firefighting by employees and the fire department. Outdoor and underground hydrants supply firefighting water exclusively to the fire department.
Wall hydrants are classified as Type F (fire department and self-help) or Type S (self-help only). Type F hydrants according to DIN 14462 are designed for firefighting by the fire department and can be operated "wet" or "wet/dry." Type S hydrants are intended exclusively for self-help and use rigid hoses.
